6 steps to achieving a transformation
Achieving a physical transformation isn’t easy, but it is less complicated than you might think. In this article we’ll quickly break down our 6 steps that will help you on your path to your transformation goals.
Step 1. Your mindset is key
Your commitment to your transformation is only as strong as ‘your why’. Whilst having a specific event in mind that you’re working towards is great, it’s important to find reasons to commit to your new routine that go deeper than just a single life event. This will help you not only achieve a physical transformation, but actually sustain it.
This step is the most challenging, but also the most game-changing when you get it right, because 9 times out of 10 - it’s not your body holding your back, but your mindset. Achieving a transformation is tough, there will be days when you don’t want to show up. Top tip? Shift the “have to” attitude to “get to” and break things down into baby steps. Instead of focusing on how far you have to go, focus on the just next action in front of you; whether that’s getting out of bed, performing the next set, you’ve got this.
Step 2. Plan your fitness routine around your life, not the other way around
Key to achieving your transformation will be consistency with your routine, so it’s vital that you make your new routine work for you & your lifestyle. Think about where you can slot in your workouts, classes & meals in ways that work with your other life commitments. Whether that’s a lunchtime walk between meetings, an early morning workout before your commute or an evening session.
Step 3. Be realistic & sustainable in your approach
It’s easy to fall into that ‘all or nothing’ mentality when it comes to health & fitness, but this can be an easy way to burn out and fall off track. So be realistic with your new routine - if you’re managing one workout a week currently, it’s unlikely you’re suddenly going to be able to manage five per week consistently. Aim for a more realistic goal, i.e. three workouts per week, do that consistently and add more to your routine from there.
Top tip: When you’re looking to incorporate new habits or work towards new goals; always ask yourself - is this sustainable? Can I see myself doing this for life? Your health & fitness routine should be there to elevate your life and how you feel, so make sure your approach is sustainable, healthy and above all enjoyable!
Step 4. Don’t overlook nutrition
It can be easy to undermine your workout efforts by not addressing your nutrition; particularly when you have a physical transformation goal in mind. Nutrition is so key to achieving this. Whether you’re looking to build muscle or lean up - eating enough protein is vital, as well as ensuring you have a balanced amount of carbs & fats. Keep your nutrition simple by aiming to have at least 25-30 grams of protein with each meal, and incorporating lots of whole, single-ingredient foods. Step 5. Find a friend or support network
You’re 65% more likely to follow through with your goals when you share them with someone. So confide your physical transformation goals in a friend, or commit to them together! Step 6. Celebrate the small wins & push through the set-backs
Progress is never exactly linear - you’ll have days or even weeks where things don’t go to plan, but that doesn’t mean you’ve failed. Commit to taking things one day at a time; then show up & give it your best. Giving things 60% effort, 100% of the time, is better than 100% effort only 10% of the time!
Part of staying motivated is also about reflecting on your achievements and feeling proud. Lasting physical transformations take time, so celebrating mini-milestones along the way is key.
